AGES 6 & UP

SCIENCE ILLUSTRATION

Tuesdays, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.  

Science illustration explores nature and natural objects through tone, textures, lines, and color. More than making realistic images, students develop new approaches to “seeing” and hone their own style. Students will learn to utilize materials: charcoal, ink, watercolor, and mixed media. Fee: $240, Teacher: Andrea Lofthouse   


CERAMICS

Thursdays, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Explore the fun art of ceramics while creating pieces that express who you are plus projects you can use every day! Students of mixed levels will learn a variety of hand-building techniques that explore form and function.  Different surface techniques such as engobing and mono-printing will be introduced based on skill and experience. Pieces will be fired and glazed. Fee: $240, Materials Fee: $20, Teacher: Rebecca Tager

DRAWING ACADEMY PROGRAM 

Mondays, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

The Place Drawing Academy offers a year long drawing program over three 8 week sessions - Fall/Winter/Spring. The program is aimed at students with a passion for drawing who want to develop their skills and confidence, and work on personal portfolios. This session, students will explore light, shade and perspective as they draw interesting objects and creatures from the world around them, applying learned techniques to both realistic and imaginary scenarios to create compelling pieces. The skills of both the quick sketch and the accomplished rendering will equip the beginner and deepen the intermediate artist's repertoire. Fee: $240, Teacher:Phillip Griswold


CREATIVE WRITING

Wednesdays, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Want your child to shine in Language Arts? Learn how to become a better writer?  Alison Bell, author of the ZIBBY PAYNE book series, is offering a fiction writing class for both returning and new students. Through fun, interactive activities, students will learn about character development, plot, setting, dialog, point of view, word choice, symbolism, and theme, and also create a personal portfolio of their work. Fee: $240, Teacher: Alison Bell


FASHION LAB

Fridays, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Learn how to express you own unique style by learning about design and exploring innovative techniques.  Draw from a model and learn clever “upcycling” techniques to transform used clothing into unique designs. We will be painting and stenciling fabric, and adding appliques as well as using a variety of materials for you to improvise your own fashion creations. Fee: $240, Teacher: Anne Marie Boyle

ACRYLIC PAINTING

Thursdays, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Through the medium of acrylic paint, students will explore the skills and techniques of painting. Through color, line, composition, and design principles as well as brush technique, beginning painters will learn the building blocks and intermediates will acquire the tools take their practice to the next level. A look at the methods of great artists will also inform our class approach to painting. This class is good for beginners and intermediate students. Fee: $240, Teacher: Phillip Griswold


FIGURE DRAWING (new start date Sept 28)

Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Drops-in Welcome, but Reservations Required

Drawing the figure is one of the most effective drawing exercises you can do. Working from a live model, employing both very short poses and longer ones, you’ll learn ways to represent the figure, focusing on line, proportion, weight and composition. This will be a guided class so beginners are welcome but more experienced drawers can work at their own pace. Materials will be provided but bring a sketchbook and any materials you would like to use. Fee: $240, Teacher: Siri France

Holiday Ceramic Workshops

Create ceramic gifts for the holidays!

 First day you will make your clay creations of your own design or chose from a selection of projects. Second day you will glaze and fire your piece to be ready for the holidays.
